Turf Renovation using Terraseeding
Terraseeding™ is an innovative process that has been developed by Rexius and now widely used for various applications in landscaping and erosion control. This relatively new seed establishment process should not to be confused with “Hydroseeding”. Terraseeding™ also improves the soil and provides an excellent growing medium for newly establishing seedlings. Since the material is blow in, the need for hauling of soil, leveling and raking, seeding by hand, fertilizing and topdressing over the seed is eliminated. The Terraseeding™ process combines all these cumbersome steps into one application of soil, compost, and seed. Since all of these steps can be performed simultaneously the cost is quite economical when compared with other aggressive renovation methods such as slice seeding or using hand labor to install topsoil, seed, and straw. Furthermore, because the material has an excellent water holding capacity and is nutrient-rich germination and establishment success are high.
Benefits of Compost Blankets/ Terraseeding™
-Seed is planted, rather than exposed on the surface, and many different types of seed can be planted (i.e grass, wildflower etc.)
-Germination is increased due to the warmth and moisture surrounding the seed (compost has high water holding capacity). Plus, the seed is in direct contact with the soil.
-The “blown-in” application levels the rough grade of sub-soil with a smooth finished layer of well draining soil. This is very effective for filling in patchy areas and thin spots within the lawn.
-This process is highly effective and quite inexpensive compared to other renovation/reestablishment methods.
Often times, we recommend shatter-tine aeration prior to performing Terraseeding™ services to reduce compaction and improve water infiltration of existing soil and aid root penetration. Call Professional Grounds, Inc. for a consultation and evaluation of your site.
